“Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” -Galatians 6:8-9
There are moments in this Christian journey when discouragement tries to settle in. I’ve had seasons where the battles that come with pursuing the things of the Spirit felt daunting — wave after wave hitting so hard that it was difficult to catch my bearings. As I looked around, it seemed as though those who lived by the world’s standards had it much easier, while those of us who were faithful to God’s Word wrestled through adversity, affliction, and misfortune. But in the middle of those moments, the Lord strategically reminded me that He had already given me everything I needed to face the challenging circumstances. Sowing to the Spirit means walking in step with the Holy Spirit — intentionally living out the fruit of the Spirit and trusting that His ministry is at work in us at all times. There were days when I wanted to retreat as the challenges seemed unending. Yet the Spirit whispered, “Do not grow weary in well‑doing.” I’m reminded that sowing in the Spirit isn’t limited to church life — it touches every area: family, work, and daily encounters.
When we sow to please the flesh, we reap corruption. When challenges arise, the desire is often to make ourselves feel better, and that can look like reverting back to old patterns or familiar comforts. But in our surrender, the Lord reminds us of who we are in Him, and His Spirit teaches us how to apply what we’ve already been taught. Therefore, when we sow to please the Spirit, we reap life — abundant, eternal, and transformative. God is building spiritual stamina within us, teaching us endurance, and strengthening our resolve to keep sowing even when the field looks barren. Sowing in the Spirit is not about perfection; it is about persistence, obedience, and trust. Every act of kindness, every moment of patience, every choice to walk in love — these are seeds heaven recognizes. And though the process can feel arduous, the Spirit is cultivating maturity and depth within us.
Beloved, take heart. You are being processed, refined, and strengthened. God is cultivating divine empowerment within you. Do not grow weary in doing good. Keep sowing in the Spirit — in your home, your workplace, your ministry, and your relationships. At the proper time, you will reap a harvest of spiritual maturity and growth. The fruit of your faithfulness will testify of His goodness. The Spirit is your helper, your encourager, and your strength. Keep your hands on the plow, and trust that the harvest is coming.
