“Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.”-1 Corinthians 14:1
In the summer of 2001, I took my first required History course in college. At the time, I was completing an internship with my astronomy professor, analyzing telescope data from Arizona. My major was Physics because I dreamed of working for NASA as an astronomer. My professor encouraged me to do the internship to see if the profession truly fit me. It didn’t. The work was mind‑numbing, and I quickly realized it wasn’t my calling. But after attending just two classes of my History course, everything changed. The discussions were engaging, the content was rich, and the professor’s passion was contagious. I was hungry for more. That exposure awakened something in me — a desire to pursue knowledge, to become an expert, to step fully into what stirred my spirit. Beloved, this is exactly how the Kingdom works. Exposure awakens hunger. Revelation awakens pursuit.
In the Kingdom of God, being exposed to revelation does not automatically enable us to walk in it. Exposure is an invitation, not a completion. Scripture tells us to pursue spiritual gifts, not simply acknowledge them. Revelation is meant to stir desire, awaken hunger, and position us to seek what God has made available. God speaks promises over our lives — through prophecy, preaching, teaching, or His Word — but those promises do not simply fall into our laps. We must position ourselves through surrender, obedience, and pursuit. His timing is perfect, and His seasons are intentional. Years ago, God told me I would be an entrepreneur. But the word wasn’t for that moment. Because I stayed in fellowship with Him, I discerned when the season shifted. Conversations about entrepreneurship began to surround me. Leadership resources crossed my path. The Holy Spirit highlighted what He had once whispered. Exposure didn’t make me an entrepreneur — it revealed what was possible. My role was to pursue it with His wisdom.
Beloved, God is inviting you to examine what He has revealed to your heart. What has He exposed you to? What has He shown you is possible? What promise have you been waiting for Him to drop into your lap, while He is waiting for you to pursue it? Exposure is God’s way of awakening desire. Revelation is His way of showing you what is available. But pursuit — Spirit‑led, surrendered pursuit — is how you step into what He has spoken. Some things will come to you because you need them. Other things must be pursued because they are part of your calling. Beloved, is God waiting on you?
Reflection Pause: What has God revealed to you that you’ve been waiting to receive, instead of pursuing with the wisdom of the Holy Spirit?
Prayer Moment
Father, thank You for exposing us to Your promises. Give us hunger to pursue what You have revealed. Grant us wisdom to discern Your timing and Your seasons. Lead us into everything You have spoken over our lives. Amen.
