“And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us… and if we know that He hears us, we know we have the requests we have asked of Him.”
I’ve prayed over my professional life for years. In the early seasons of my career, I prayed fervently for God to open new doors so I could move in a different direction. I wanted out, and I wanted out quickly. But here I am, years later, still in the same field. For a long time, I didn’t understand why those prayers went unanswered. I felt overlooked, stuck, and even confused. But as I grew closer to the Lord, He began unfolding His plan for my life, and I realized something important: those early prayers were outside of His will. If He had answered them, it would have pulled me away from what He was preparing me for. Beloved, I had to learn that unanswered prayers are not always rejection — sometimes they are protection.
1 John 5:14–15 teaches us that God hears every prayer we pray — but He responds to the prayers aligned with His will. He will not honor a request that contradicts His plan for our lives. God’s will is not something He begins forming when we are born. Scripture shows us that He establishes our purpose before we ever enter the world. He told Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…” (Jeremiah 1:5). That same truth applies to you. God spent time knowing you, designing you, and preparing your path long before your parents ever met. When I look back now, I see how my career shaped me as a minister. It matured my spiritual gifts. It developed skills that became assets for the Kingdom. What I once wanted to escape became the very place God used to prepare me. Some unanswered prayers are not God withholding from you — they are God preserving what He promised you.
Beloved, God is inviting you to pray with alignment. He is calling you to seek His will, not just His intervention. He is reminding you that His plans were established long before your desires ever formed. This means asking Him to shape your prayers. It means trusting Him when He says “not yet” or “not this.” It means believing that His protection is just as loving as His provision. It means remembering that He hears you — and He answers according to what He has already ordained. Your unanswered prayers may be the very thing keeping you aligned with destiny.

Father, help us discern Your will for our lives. Align our prayers with Your plans, and steady our hearts in the confidence that You hear us. You get the glory out of our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
