Stabilize, Then Act

Scripture

Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city". -Proverbs 16:32

Beloved, as we grow into people of purpose, we must learn to manage our emotions with intention. Managing our emotions is a mark of true strength and inner maturity. Frustrations and aggravations will come, but our response matters deeply. Rarely are wise decisions made in moments of heightened emotion. God calls us to be sober in spirit and in mind—not to suppress what we feel, but to steward those feelings well. Scripture teaches that the one who can rule his spirit is mightier than one who conquers a city. Why is emotional management so important? Because it keeps us aligned with the Father. A sign of spiritual maturity is allowing the Holy Spirit—not our stormy emotions—to guide our responses.

We will always experience emotion, but the Word instructs us to be slow to speak, slow to anger, and quick to listen. When emotions rise- pause, stabilize them, and then act. Take heart, Beloved—self‑control is a fruit of the Spirit. This means emotional discipline is not achieved through willpower alone but through divine empowerment. Rely on the Holy Spirit to help you manage the important areas of your life; don’t attempt to do it alone. This skill is rare and deeply impactful.

Managing our emotional responses protects us from acting on sinful impulses. It preserves our relationships, our health, our self‑respect, and our reputation. So when emotions run high-pause, pray, steady your heart, and then move forward. Self‑control and patience are greater strengths than physical power. Follow the example of Christ. He experienced deep emotion and sorrow, yet He never allowed His feelings to dictate His behavior. In every circumstance, He submitted to the Father’s will. Let us remember who we are in Christ and put away the old patterns—including the way we respond emotionally.

Prayer

Father, we submit to you as we learn to mangage our emotional response to the circumstances in our lives. We rely on your guidance, wisdom, and strength to operate in love and peace. In Jesus' name. Amen.

We are blessed to have a guiding spirit to help us to control emotions that causes us to block out the voices of God! May God continue to bless.
