Scripture
"Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?" -Isaiah 43:18-19
The sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit is only as effective in our lives as our willingness to submit to it. A major part of sanctification is allowing Him to confront our faulty thinking and carnal mindsets. As we surrender, He teaches us to approach every situation through the lens of Scripture. It’s a process of renewing the mind and shifting our focus. Paul urges us in Romans 12:2 to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This transformation begins when we acknowledge that our way of thinking does not align with God’s. As we mature in Christ, we begin to recognize that our own logic and human wisdom never truly served us—they catered to the old version of ourselves. Through submission to His guidance and consistent communion with the Lord, we learn to rely on Scripture to shape our thoughts in every situation. It’s in this place of surrender that we can finally release old patterns of thinking and let go of what once defined us. Only then can we clearly see the difference between who we were and who we are becoming. Refuse to go back, Beloved.
The true test of our thinking often shows up when everything seems to fall apart at once. In those moments, the adversary loves to highlight everything that isn’t going right. Our first thoughts in these situations reveal where our minds truly are. Are we filled with anxiety and fear? Do we immediately start scrambling for solutions to escape the pressure we’re under? Or do we first cast our cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7)? When we lay aside every weight and bring our concerns to the Lord, He reminds us of the truth of Scripture and how it applies to our lives. A transformed mind can clearly see the difference between old patterns of thinking and the renewed mindset God has given. The opportunity to slip back into old thought habits will always be there—but you choose not to return because God’s truth has taken root in you.
Forget the former things, Beloved—the old thought patterns that led to old habits. God is doing a new work in you. Day by day, through every situation, He has been transforming your mind and reshaping your perspective. You are not who you used to be, so stand firmly in that truth as you face the challenges of life. Refuse to entertain the old thoughts—thoughts of defeat, fear, or helplessness. You have hope. God is guiding your steps in every season. No matter what is happening around you externally, He has already done a deep work within you. You have been internally transformed, and that transformation is your strength. Hold onto that truth and keep moving forward.
Prayer
Father, we hold fast to the truth of what your Word says about us. It is our compass in this season and will strengthen us through the challenges. In Jesus' name. Amen
