"And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it.' when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left." -Isaiah 30:32
This world offers us countless options, and it can be tempting to choose a path that seems right based on our own wisdom and understanding. Because it doesn’t feel obviously wrong, human reasoning can convince us that we’re headed in the right direction—even when it’s not God’s plan at all. But His voice is the one guiding our every step. Our responsibility is to listen for it and follow where He leads. How can you be sure you’re truly hearing God’s voice? God’s voice will always align with His Word. He will never speak anything that contradicts Scripture. His voice brings peace, joy, and a desire to grow—not confusion, fear, or condemnation. Another way God confirms His leading is through the counsel of others. Seeking wisdom from mature, godly, and trusted believers can help know whether a direction is truly from the Lord.
Here are some practical ways we can begin following God’s voice right now. First, we can choose to be still and listen. We live in a world filled with noise and constant distraction, so stillness becomes essential for hearing God clearly. We often expect Him to speak with a loud, unmistakable command—“Go this way, child.” But more often, He speaks through gentle whispers and subtle nudges. Follow those nudges, Beloved. Finally, be intentional about seeking Him. If you need direction, pursue His guidance rather than passively waiting for answers to fall into place. God delights in revealing His will to those who earnestly seek Him.
Beloved, God is not random. He often repeats what He has already spoken—through Scripture, through prayer, or through the words of another believer. When seeking direction, don’t look for what feels most comfortable, because comfort doesn’t always align with His will. Instead, seek confirmation and be willing to act on what He reveals. Following His voice requires closeness. We become familiar with God’s leading through intentional listening and consistent communion with Him. It’s difficult to recognize His voice when we only approach Him like a counselor we visit during moments of crisis. He desires relationship, not occasional consultations. Hearing and following His voice calls for complete trust, patience, and a heart willing to obey. When we surrender in this way, His guidance becomes clearer, and our steps become steadier.
