When God Corrects Our Course

Scripture

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. -Proverbs 16:9

Out of God's great love for us, He will intervene in our affairs to realign our path with His purpose. I used to be a great planner. I used to plan my life and every step to get the destination that I set for my life. I planned so well, things were aligning so perfectly. That is until God's intervention in my affairs changed the entire path. It was uncomfortable and confusing initially. I thought I had every right to plan my course. After all, it's my life, right? No. Over the course of time, I began to understand why God was intervening in my life. First, He was protecting the promise that was inside of me. Second, through Jesus' blood, I was brought with a price. Therefore, my life did not belong to me. When God changes our course, it's not a sign of condemnation, it's a sign of love. He is intentional and purposeful.

He is not rejecting you, Beloved. Instead it's proof that you are recognized as His child. He's refining you. He is infinite in wisdom and will use different methods to correct your path. He may use hardships, loss, challenges, or in my case, broken plans to steer your life to His purpose. Ultimately, He wants to see you grow spiritually. He desires to transform you into who He purposed you to be. He wants to increase your capacity for more and increase your faith in His ability to direct your life. If you find yourself in this place, don't panic, just surrender to His correction. Remember, His thoughts of you are good, not evil. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Beloved, your response is important. Do we murmur and complain when our plans are changed or when they fail? Do we lament to anyone who'll listen? Do we despise discipline? Or do we submit, repent and accept God's guidance in our lives? You will know your course is being corrected by a strong conviction or discomfort regarding a specific behavior, thoughts, or attitude. You may experience challenges and obstacles that make it impossible for you to continue on your current course. The Holy Spirit may make you feel the urgency to align your life with the will of God. Beloved, pay attention to your life today. Can you discern God correcting your course? If so, embrace it. He's being a loving Father giving divine care.

Prayer

Father, we submit to your divine correction in our lives. We surrender to the discipline and urgency to change course. We thank you for your divine guidance and love. In Jesus' name. Amen
