Scripture
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. -Psalm 18:2"
Beloved, the Spirit is gently asking, “Why do you trust in your own strength?” “Why do you fight for your own safety?” “Why do you attempt to secure your own victory?” These questions echo through the hearts of God’s people who have forgotten that it is not by power, nor by might, but by the Spirit of the Lord. When challenges arise, we are never meant to face them alone. There is no obstacle we are required to overcome in our own ability. Our God is a rock and fortress, a deliverer, shield, buckler, horn of salvation, and our strength. Many believers feel weary and depleted because they are fighting battles in their own strength—battles they were never meant to carry. We are not equipped to stand against the attacks of the kingdom of darkness by human effort. The adversary is described as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, which means we must remain alert, but Scripture never instructs us to fight him with human intellect or natural ability. Our victory is found only in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Reflection Pause: Where have you been relying on your own strength instead of the Spirit’s power, and how is God inviting you to shift that today?
Beloved, do not forget that you have access—full, unhindered access to the God who is your stronghold. As His child, you stand on a sure foundation. He is your secure hiding place and your defense against every plan and scheme of the enemy. When the enemy comes in, the Lord Himself lifts up a standard, a divine intervention and protective barrier when life becomes overwhelming. He is your deliverer, rescuing you from danger and affliction. He is your shield against spiritual attacks and the fiery darts of the adversary. On the day of battle, God displays immeasurable strength and power. He is your shelter when the rain pours, and He will never leave you defenseless. So remain under His covering, Beloved—do not step out from beneath His shelter to fight battles in your own strength.
Reflection Pause: Where are you tempted to fight in your own strength, and how is God inviting you to remain under His protection instead?
Beloved, consider the moments where you’ve tried to handle situations in your own strength. Think about the obstacles you’ve attempted to overcome without leaning into the Lord’s power. He is your horn of salvation—your source of immense strength, victory, and divine protection. Remember that He is your God and your strength, and it is your covenant relationship with Him that empowers you to endure what would otherwise be unendurable. Because of His great mercy, you are not consumed. Though you may be hard‑pressed on every side, you are not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. His shelter covers you, and His presence sustains you through every battle.
Journal Reflection: Write about a situation where you relied on your own strength instead of God’s. How did it affect your peace, your confidence, or your clarity?
Prayer Moment
Father, thank you that in times of trouble, we run to You, our God, our rock, in whom we take refuge. We love you and and we thank You that You are our rock, our fortress, and our deliverer. In Jesus' name. Amen
