Be Bold, Let Your Light Shine

Scripture

"You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden." -Matthew 5:14

The Lord has called many believers to step out of our comfort zones and let our lights shine.  However, some have been unable to do so. Fear of the unknown and rejection keeps us from stepping out. Therefore, we intentionally dim our lights so that the world won't see. The adversary will remind us of our mistakes, and failures to discourage us. He will promote a poor self-image that paralyzes us and causes us to shy away from being God's light bearer. This is not what Jesus wants for the children of God. Jesus was telling His followers that they were to be visible, active representatives of truth. In a world  that is fallen and dark, we can no longer afford to hide or dim our light. The light represents our faith, which should never be hidden. When we walk boldly in our faith, we become a beacon of hope and a reflection of Christ's character.

So what does showing your light look like? First, Jesus wants every believer to live out their faith in a way that others see their good works and glorify God. We show love to everyone, especially the difficult by being a reflection of  Jesus' compassion. In the practical sense, how we show up in our daily lives is important. For instance, we maintain integrity in our workplaces, schools, and at home. Highlight a different standard of living for the people in your sphere of influence. The encounters with people are equally as important. Do we speak words that encourage, bring peace, and heal or do we engage in gossip and slander? Our lights shine as we're serving others through volunteering without the need of recognition. We're letting our lights shine when we show patience and grace for others as well.

Beloved, Jesus is really encouraging us to live outside of the world's standards. He's calling us to be distinct and stand out in this world. When we live like this we're allowing Christ to live through us so that our actions, not just words, lead others to God. God wants us to display and pour out what He's deposited in us through our fellowship with Him. As His image bearers, we should show the world that there's a hope.

Prayer

Father, thank you that we are children of light. We ask for the courage to let our faith be visible and not hidden. In Jesus' name. Amen
