Lord, I Need To Talk

Scripture

"Don't worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace.-Philippians 4:6-7

God is a confidant and friend that sticks closer than a brother according to scripture. He is the one we turn to as we experience the highs and lows.  If we're not careful though, these truths can escape us when the winds blow in our lives. The scripture above admonishes us to pray about everything. I used to only tell God about the big things; financial woes, sorrow, or family issues. I kept the things that I thought were smaller to myself. The truth is, it was those smaller things that I felt more often than the bigger things. For instance, getting my feelings hurt or feeling overlooked were issues that I didn't think I needed to talk to Him about. In my eyes, they seemed insignificant compared to financial struggles or depression. However, what God showed me as my relationship with Him deepened is that those things that seemed insignificant today can take root in my heart and tomorrow they become strongholds if not addressed. Now, no matter what it is I tell Him, "Lord, I need to talk."

Sometimes, instead of seeing the truth about who God actually is in our lives, we handle Him through the lenses and experiences of others. Perhaps some were taught to be formal with God. He is the Almighty God after all. Yes, we are to revere Him because He is sovereign, but as He reveals His heart to me, I see a Father who simply cares about what His daughter cares about. He showed me that He wanted to be a part of my daily life and desired for me to talk to Him about even the smallest things that I experience. He knows where unchecked emotions can lead-to stress, worry, and anxiety. These assuredly steal our peace. Since prayer is a dialogue, then we can say, don't worry about anything, talk to Him about everything.

When we talk to Him about everything, His supernatural peace protects our hearts and minds. Regardless of the situation, large or small, tell Him about it, and you'll find victory through Christ. Beloved, this is your reminder to never hold on to anything, tell Him about it. His peace will supernaturally guide and protect you to victory in each situation.  It will calm, direct, and confirm your decisions in life. So whatever you're facing today, tell him, "Lord, I need to talk."

Prayer

Father, thank you that we can bring everything to you, no matter how big or insignificant. We thank you for your peace that transcends our understanding that directs our lives. In Jesus' name. Amen
