Worship Him

Scripture

God is a spirit, and they that worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth. -John4:24

Each week, many believers go to church, and they are admonished to worship the Lord. So they lift their hands and close their eyes, and they worship. While it is a beautiful experience to worship alongside our brothers and sisters, worship is not confined to the four walls of the church. As a matter of fact, this scripture is taken from a conversation that Jesus was having with the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus explained to her that worship transcended the four walls when  He said that God is a spirit and He must be worshiped in spirit and in truth. True worship was not confined to a temple in Jerusalem, but it was the result of  heartfelt, inward connection with God. Jesus was redirecting her from a geographical, ritualistic worship and introducing her to a new era of worship where believers' worship was defined by the heart, not their rituals.

True worship is a sign of a relationship with the God of the Bible. This is important because it is possible to get caught up in our emotions and not worship Him in the truth of who He is. True worship comes from a place of revelation. What that means is when we worship, it has to come from the revealed truth of the word of God. For example, if the word of God reveals that He is a healer, and you've experienced healing in your body or your mind, then you worship Him from that knowledge and experience of Him being a healer in your life. This is what makes your worship authentic because it's rooted in revelation and experiential knowledge of Him, not what you imagine Him to be.

Beloved, our worship should be about  God's character and nature found in scripture. Anything else is just human performance. Worship should revolve around the person and finished work of Jesus, as He is the ultimate revelation of God and the mediator of true worship. Remember that authentic worship involves our daily obedience and holiness. Paul said in Romans 12:1  that we are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. Our daily conduct must align with the songs we sing and the prayers that we pray. This signifies that there is a way in which we should approach the Lord in worship. Our hearts should burn for Him because of the truth of who He is. Come, let us worship Him.

Prayer

Father, we worship You in spirit and in truth. Amen
