Do I Feel Motivated?

Scripture

I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. -Philippians 4:13

God is holy and full of lovingkindness. The more you draw closer to Him, the more He'll reveal His heart and your purpose to you. In all of His majesty and splendor, I've also found that He is practical. He will reveal your calling to fulfill your purpose to you, and show you how to live it out. Then it's up to you to make the necessary shifts in life to  do what He's shown you. The problem for some of us is that it is now on our shoulders, and we wait on the motivation to make the necessary shifts. If we wait to be motivated, we will never do what it takes. Motivation is the internal and external forces that activate, direct, and sustain behavior toward achieving a goal, acting as the underlying reason or drive for our actions. The problem with motivation is that it isn't a consistent feeling in our lives. One day we're ready to tackle every project and achieve every goal, but the next day we don't feel like getting out of bed. Beloved, discipline will sustain you when motivation fades.

When the Holy Spirit reveals the next steps, we must do what it takes to make them. I have found that there will always be external forces that fight against the vision. One day it's an unexpected situation with your family, to issues with your car, or something as simple as a phone call. A phone call? Yes, the smallest things will take your time and attention from achieving what you have set out to accomplish as part of the larger goal. It's about doing it in spite of_____. You fill in the blank, Beloved. It's about simply doing and not feeling. This is why motivation is good, but it can't be the thing you rely on because if you're not disciplined, your actions are subject to your feelings. Vision requires consistency.

It's about keeping the vision that God has given you in mind and consistently taking the steps to achieve it, no matter how small. This requires a solid resolve that you're going to do whatever is necessary. This doesn't look the same for everyone, but the discipline is the same. It means prioritizing and accepting that when you're saying yes to one thing, you're saying no to something else, and it's perfectly fine. Sometimes it's no to getting together with friends, no to getting with extended family if you're on a deadline, no to the telephone conversation,  or no to binge watching. Don't feel guilty for saying no to things and people you care about for a season to achieve what God has set before you. It's not callous, you're building endurance and resilience. Beloved, what has God set before you? Let's take this day to examine our actions towards achieving our God-given vision.

Prayer

Father, help us push past our feelings as we live the vision that you've planted in our hearts. In Jesus' name. Amen
