"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour" -I Peter 5:8
When I would receive my prophetic word from the Lord and when He would give me instructions for my next steps, distractions would arise. When I set my eyes on His purpose for my life, the enemy would send something or someone to tempt me to shift my focus. I would be deep in the situation before I realized that the 'something' or the person was sent as an assignment to distract me. There were times when the assignment was presented as something good, but it was only a device Satan used as a distraction. I would repent and seek the Holy Spirit's counsel on why I found myself distracted again. He'd send me to the scriptures.
The scripture above is admonishing the saint to stay focused and alert. The enemy is opposed to God's plans for our lives. He will do whatever he has to do to see that every prophetic word and promise for our lives fall to the ground. He doesn't want the saints to fulfill their purpose, so he constantly targets unsuspecting Christians who are not alert, weak in their faith, and lack self-control. He preys on those whose guards are down and those whose spiritual senses are dull. This is how he presents situations and people to get them off the path God has set for them.
Beloved, be clear-minded and pay attention to the enemy's patterns in your life. When are you inundated with busyness? When do certain people from the past show up in your life? Is there a certain time of year when you feel more emotional than usual? When we pause to reflect on the patterns of our actions and emotions, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we are usually able to identify when and how the enemy attempts to set us off track. Take some time today and think about your life last year. Can you recognize patterns and times when you've lost your focus? If so, be vigilant in this year, see the enemy as the deceiver that he is, and claim your victory.
Prayer
Father, we thank you for the discernment to recognize when things and people are sent as distractions in our lives. Thank you for the wisdom to notice patterns and the grace to say no. In Jesus' name. Amen
