Scripture
"My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth....the Lord watches over you-the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm-he will watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." -Psalm 121:2;5-8
A few years ago, I took my daughter on a road trip to Washington D.C. She and I share a love for museums, so we decided to visit the Smithsonian. While on that trip we saw an advertisement for the Shenandoah Caverns in Virginia. I put the address in the GPS and we set out to the Shenandoah Valley. The trip was relatively uneventful until the landscape changed. One moment I was driving on a road lined with trees, and then suddenly the trees were gone. I had begun driving on an extremely high bridge into the mountains. I've driven in the mountains several times before, but the difference is, I was expecting my scenery to change. On this trip, the landscape changed without warning because I had never been that way before. I began to ask God to help us get through the drive unscathed. We arrived at the caverns and my daughter had a blast.
So many times we find ourselves uneventfully moving along in life until something unexpected happens. The car breaks down, the pipes burst in the house, job loss, or trouble arises in relationships. No matter what it is, we can get caught off kilter. It's in these moments that we remember that the Lord provides shade from life's hardships. I was caught off guard with the landscape change, but God was not. The same is true for your situation, Beloved. You may not have expected that thing to happen, but the Lord knew. The blessing in the situation is that He is your helper, and He will show up for you. He's always near, providing comfort and relief from life's intense pressures. He's a vigilant protector.
Take comfort in knowing that the Creator of heaven and earth guards our entire life, from daily activities to our spiritual well-being. He is ever watchful because He never slumbers. Remember when I mentioned that nothing catches Him by surprise? Since He knew what you'd be facing, He'll get you through it. He provides the strength to overcome. Beloved, we need not fret; every step we take, every moment, present and future is in His hands.
Prayer
Father, we thank you for protecting us. Thank you for guarding every aspect of our entire lives. We're grateful that nothing catches you by surprise. We stand under your shade. In Jesus' name. Amen
