Scripture
I refuse to turn away from difficult truths, for you yourself have taught me to love your words. -Psalm 119:102
I remember when I was in college, I worked for a local chapter of the Boys and Girls Club. I would work with middle school students after my class each afternoon. One day, I did not want to go to work. I wasn't sick, nor did I have a school deadline; I didn't feel like going to work. I called my father and told him how I was feeling, hoping that he would agree and tell me to take the day off. Well, he didn't. I mentioned that I wanted to make up an excuse not to go to work, and he said, "I will not conspire with you to not go today." He went on to tell me that going to work was the right thing to do, and sometimes we are required to do things that we don't feel like doing. I remember him telling me to do the right thing on many occasions during my college years. He said it so much that I've heard the statement in my head throughout my young adult years. Now, I tell my daughter the same thing. My dad's instruction to do the right thing created a resolve in me because of my connection to him. In the same manner, David has a resolve to heed God's instruction.
He refused to stray from God's divine instruction because God Himself had revealed His truths. God's teaching empowers us to follow His ways. As we become deeply connected to Him, His laws and commands are no longer things we check off our list to do because we are saved. Our minds are renewed concerning His Kingdom principles because our minds are renewed about Him. Instead, we see His law as a treasure, not a burden. Because we partake in the goodness of a true fellowship with Him, His divine instructions are transformative and unforgettable.
When the Lord teaches us something, it is not easily forgotten. So, Beloved, in essence, we develop a deep personal love for God's Word and a commitment to follow it through our deep connection with Him. It creates an unbreakable resolve to live a life of obedience to His voice. Beloved, what truth has God revealed to you that led you to an unbreakable resolve of obedience?
Prayer
Father, teach us your laws and give us a life according to your Word. Please help us stay on the path of your commands. In Jesus' name. Amen.
