A Life of Honor to God

Scripture

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” -1 Corinthians 10:31.

I once heard a pastor discuss with his congregation a question he asked believers pertaining to the Holy Spirit. He said he asked people if they had to walk around for a day with a dove on their shoulder, would their behavior change? He said people told him that they would be careful how they walked and talked so as not to spook the bird. People said that they would shift their activities because they were conscious of the bird on their shoulder. The point was that if people were willing to shift their behaviors and the way that they spoke to accommodate the bird on their shoulder, why not adopt the same mindset when it comes to honoring God in their lives?

Whatever we do in this life, whether it's raising children, pursuing our careers, or interacting with people, it is essential to honor God while we're doing it. We do this through reverencing Him. We express our reverence for Him through our actions, prayer, obedience, stewardship (time, talents, body, and finances), and our speech; we must be conscious of His presence in our lives. We must also be conscious of Him in everything we do. When we were younger, there were things we'd say and do around our friends that we wouldn't dare do around our parents. This is because of the respect and reverence we had for their authority. Jesus is no different. If He is truly Lord over our lives, then the way that we live our lives and interact with others will reflect this truth. We live with Him in mind.

Beloved, it always goes back to a relationship. We are to cultivate a deep, active relationship with Him. In this way, we align our decisions and character with His will. Our internal reverence will influence our outward reverence. Actions will always align with a heart devoted to God. Beloved, as you live your life, live in such honor to the Lord that you inspire others to pursue His heart.

Prayer

Father, we choose to live each day honoring your presence in our lives. We acknowledge your greatness, and we align our lives with your will. In Jesus' name. Amen
