As You Go Into Your Next

Scripture

Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. -Joshua 1:9

Many of us in the Kingdom are called to take the next step, move to the next destination, make the next decision, create something new, and execute a change. While these are exciting times for some, for others, these times incite unease, fear, and insecurity. We know that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Tim. 2:17), and can quote this verbatim to others when they struggle with fear. However,  we don't always apply this encouragement to our own lives. God is encouraging all of us to be strong and courageous as we move into the next season of life. We're all in different places in our personal and spiritual lives, but all of us are called to move courageously.

The truth is, apprehension comes when we don't know the details. God has given many of us instructions, but He didn't give the detailed plans or blueprints, so we have to take every step in faith. Joshua had very big shoes to fill, replacing Moses, and it is easy to see why he was uneasy about the path forward. In all of His wisdom and knowledge, God had already seen Joshua's ending. He had already seen his faithfulness, victories, mistakes, and obedience. Therefore, He instructed Him to be strong and full of courage. Beloved, God has seen your ending as well. He's already scripted your story, and yes, this includes your next. He knows that when you take this next step, make the next move, make this next decision, you're going to be victorious because He's with you. The only thing you need to do is be obedient to His voice and go.

Another reason God instructs us to be strong and courageous is that His grace accompanies us. Yes, His grace is an unmerited favor upon our lives, but it also gives us ability. He told Paul, "My grace is sufficient for you." (2 Corinthians 12:9). It meant it covered any weakness (physical or spiritual) that Paul had. When God is with us, His very nature provides strength and help. So, Beloved, boldly make the next move and take the next step. Whatever God has spoken instructed you to do, you're going to win.

Prayer

Father, we trust you with our next season. We put our faith in your ability to carry us through. Thank you for never giving up on us. In Jesus' name. Amen
