As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. -Proverbs 23:7
I am a teacher of American History, and one topic that my students love to discuss is American slavery. As we study history, I teach them to observe patterns of human behavior, dispositions, and thinking patterns of different time periods. One question that I am asked each year is this: "If there were so many more enslaved people than free whites, why weren't there more revolts? Why would they let colonists treat them so terribly?" My reply to these questions is this: "If I have your mind, then I have your body." They give this perplexed, doubtful gaze after hearing my response. I explain to them that when Africans are captured and put into slavery, many of them weren't regular everyday people. Many were kings, queens, warriors, princes, and princesses. These people were groomed for greatness and excellence, and this truth carried a sense of pride. To be enslaved was ludicrous. After years of capturing and enslaving Africans, Europeans figured out that if they could break them in their minds, they could force their bodies to do anything.
Beloved, the same is true for believers today. We were made in the image of God and to have dominion over the earth. (Genesis 1:26). We are a royal priesthood according to 1 Peter 2:9, and Jesus has made us kings and priests to our God. (Revelation 5:10). Just as earthly kings, queens, and warriors are groomed to take their rightful place of authority, so are we when we receive salvation. The problem comes in when we refuse to submit to the Holy Spirit. See, when we don't submit, we open the door for Satan to come in and distort our thinking. Because we're not discerning, we believe the lies he has suggested to our minds. Hence, my statement to my students, "If I have your mind, then I have your body." If we allow Satan to play with our minds, then he controls everything that we do because as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.
Beloved, do you know who we truly are? We are kings and priests of God, and Jesus came to restore dominion of the earth to us. I know that life gets difficult, but don't forget. Trials come, and they seemingly overtake you, but don't forget. People may walk away and doors may close, but don't forget. Don't forget that you are a Kingdom citizen with privileges and favor from the King of Kings. Romans 12:2 says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." That word 'world' is translated as 'kosmos', or government or world order. So, Paul is saying, don't conform to these worldly systems and government, which belong to the prince of the air, but conform to the government and systems of the Kingdom of Heaven. Once we grasp this truth, we will be unstoppable. As we are aligning our lives with the will of the King, everything we endeavor has the entire Kingdom of Heaven backing us. Glory to the King! Remember who you are, Beloved.
Prayer
Father, thank you for revealing to us our rightful place. We submit to the work of the Holy Spirit to prepare us to take dominion over the earth for the Kingdom of Heaven. In Jesus' name. Amen
This was such a right on time Word. I was just sharing something close to this to a coworker. She was speaking doubts and negative things. Thank you for sharing 🙌🏽
