Scripture
Only be strong and courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. -Joshua 1:7
God has a plan for the life of every believer. It is our responsibility to seek Him for His plan for our lives. Once the plan is revealed, we are to live it out with strength and courage. God told Joshua that He would lead the people of Israel into the promised land. Joshua must have felt some type of inadequacy because God admonished him to be strong and courageous multiple times. Like Joshua, we too need God’s power to fulfill the plans for our lives.
Joshua is instructed to observe the law. This means that in addition to courage and strength, obedience is required to live out your calling. God has called us to be obedient to and apply His Word to our lives. Our success in this Christian walk is directly tied to our obedience to the Lord. If we’re not careful, we can become distracted by our own emotions and external forces in our journey. These things can cause us to deviate or to compromise. Living in your calling requires your consistent effort and focus, which is why God told Joshua not to look to the left or the right.
Beloved, know that God is always with us, even if we don’t always feel Him. Daily, we must seek to be strengthened. How do we find strength? By consistently getting into His presence. If we are to fulfill the call upon our lives, we must not let our souls lag in strength. The process for success is laid out in this scripture; it is our responsibility to lay hold of it through our obedience. Complete obedience to God is the only way to success. Joshua discovered this as he led Israel into their promised place. What about your life, Beloved? Are you living out God’s plan for your life? Do you seek Him for the strength and courage you need? Are you walking in obedience to instructions that He’s given you for your life? Selah.
Prayer
Father, we know that our strength comes from you, not our own abilities. We pray for the courage to obey and follow your instructions. Thank you for the assurance that you will be with us always. In Jesus’ name. Amen
