Don't Be Discouraged

Scripture

But it so happened that when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he was furious and very indignant and mocked the Jews. Tobiah the Ammonite, who was standing beside him, remarked, "That stone wall would collapse if even a fox walked along top of it." -Nehemiah 4:1;3

Commissioned by God to go forth in ministry and make shifts in my career, I was excited to begin moving in a new direction. I was excited about the prospect of walking into a place of greater maturity, and about the changes I knew would come in my life. Then discouragement set in. So much of what God was commissioning me to do was so far out of my comfort zone. It felt like it was beyond my ability.  "Father, I don't know how to do this. This is much bigger than I thought it was going to be. These changes in my career and schedule are so far from the norm in my life." Fear was setting in.

I was desperate not to disappoint God, and I knew I didn't want fear to stop me from doing what I was called to do. Fear and doubt do this to many in the Body of Christ. Saints will hear God's instructions clearly, and when they consider the gravity of what He's called them to do, fear sets in, and they begin to doubt. I did not want this to be the truth in my life. Demonic suggestions come to discourage and intimidate us from doing what we are called, just as Saballot and Tobiah came to discourage and intimidate Nehemiah and the people of Judah while they were rebuilding the wall. God commissioned them to complete the project. The truth is, when God commissions us to do something, He will provide the resources, give us the strength, and the wisdom to complete the task. He is aware of the complications, the changes, and the demands of instructions.

I was honest with Him in my prayers, and He reminded me that I don't have to give in to fear and discouragement when I walk with the Spirit of Truth. He will counsel me, guide me, and give me His wisdom as I move forward in obedience. Beloved, don't allow fear and discouragement to stop you from being obedient to God. It doesn't matter what the task is, if He called you to it, He'll guide you through it. Beloved, be encouraged today.

Prayer

Father, today we choose to rely on the Holy Spirit for strength and counsel as we do what you have called us to do. We walk in faith and confidence, and know that you are leading and guiding us as we fulfill our purpose and bring glory to your name. In Jesus' name. Amen
