Love Life

Scripture

Those who are loved by God, let his love continually pour from you to one another. I John 4:7

In our relationship with the Father, I've noticed  He is very concerned about our love life. In a previous devotional, I wrote about the different levels of spiritual growth for Christians: children, parents, and young men. If we track how God deals with His saints as they are walking in fellowship with Him, we'll notice the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He searches every aspect of our lives, exposing and uncovering what is not like God. He reveals to us what should be present in our hearts. The closer we walk with God, the more submissive we are to His will. Psalm 37:4 calls us to delight ourselves in God, and He will give us the desires of our hearts. The word 'delight' in Hebrew means to be soft or pliable and delicate. So this scripture is telling us to allow ourselves to be pliable and bendable towards the will of God. The deeper our fellowship, the softer our hearts become for Him, and we become like Him. We take on His love.

God is love. Every believer in close fellowship with Him should have experiential knowledge of His love. We take on His love for us and display it to the world. It's the love of God that draws people. It's His love that prompts us to forgive others. It's the power of His love that moves people to true repentance. It's His love that prompts us to encourage when we would say nothing. It keeps us patient with others. His love causes us to say yes when we would have said no.

Beloved, because we are in fellowship with the true and living God, we are to take on His nature. He is love. Therefore, love should flow from Him to our hearts. His love flows through us to others. What is your love life like? What do you display to the world?

Prayer

Father, thank you for your steadfast love towards us. Teach us how to love others in the way that you love us. Show us how to open our hearts to those around so that they can see you. We submit to the sanctifying work of your Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name. Amen
