“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33
"Lord, your word says that you'd supply all of our needs according to your riches in glory. It also declares that now unto him that can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think according to the power that worketh in us." I quoted these scriptures in prayer as the evening was flooded with one difficult situation after another. Things were seemingly falling apart in my mostly organized, crafted life. I work hard to make my life as routine as possible, but things were falling apart. My daughter experienced a crushing blow and was extremely disappointed, mostly in herself. "Lord, how do I help her?" At the same moment, the car started doing something weird, which required me to pull over. So, there I was, in an ailing car and observing a weeping teenager. What was I to do?
In the moments of trial, what do I do? Go to the Lord in prayer. As I sat on the side of the road comforting my daughter, I began to pray Philippians 4:7, which states that the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard my heart and my mind. I concentrated on what the word of God said and applied it in my life at that moment. I spoke peace over both situations. Thankfully, we weren't pulled over long. When we got home, I continued in prayer, declaring the word of the Lord to our situation in faith. The truth is, we are not immune to tribulation in life. The question is, in the moment, how do we respond?

We respond in prayer to our loving Father, believing in faith that we will receive what we ask for. We respond by applying His word to our situations. Our response to the trials will tell us where we truly are. It reveals our level of maturity and spiritual growth. The beauty of it all is, the Spirit of God will lead and guide us if we allow Him. He'll remind us that He'll never leave us nor forsake us. He'll bring up scriptures that are buried in our hearts to the surface that we can pray and declare over our lives. Beloved, where are you in your faith journey? What is your first response to tribulations and afflictions in your life? God, in His infinite wisdom, will use every situation as a teachable moment for the next test. The question is, are we tracking what He's doing in our lives? Another question is, are we aware that we're being guided by Him? Nothing catches Him by surprise because He foreknew us. He knows our story. Will we allow Him to help us live it out victoriously?
Prayer
Father, we trust you and believe every promise in your word. Help us to respond in faith in every situation we face in our lives. Please strengthen us for the journey ahead, and be reminded that you are with us always. In Jesus' name. Amen.
