Scripture
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. - Romans8:28
This scripture is one of the most commonly quoted, especially when faced with life's difficulties. It is meant to encourage believers and increase their faith in God. It implies that God is sovereign and is working to bring about His will, even when things don't look so good. It may suggest that it will ultimately work out, even if we don't see the immediate results. More importantly, this verse is a promise to those who are in a relationship with Him. Even though, they don't see the immediate good in a given situation, they've got this blessed assurance that because they are called according to His purpose and living it out daily, things will work out for their good.
What do we do in the meantime while we're waiting on the promise? What is the posture of our hearts when we don't receive the immediate results? In the meantime, we continue in our relationship with the Lord. We apply what we've been learning through scripture to the situation. We allow ourselves to be encouraged by the Holy Spirit. We remember God's faithfulness in previous situations in our lives.
I Samuel 16:7 says, ".....For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” God is observing the contents of our hearts while we're waiting on the promise. Do we continue in faith, knowing that He is going to work all things for our good? Do we speak the word over the situation we're facing? Our heart posture should display a faith that says, "Lord, even if I don't get what I ask for, You are still worthy. I trust Your wisdom and plan for my life, and if I don't get the thing that I ask for, You have something better for me. I submit to Your will and purpose for my life, so I know that this situation will work out for my highest good." We have to show God that our hearts are for Him, and not what He can make work out for us, because what we ask for may not be in His sovereign will.
In the meantime, Beloved, keep your steady pace in your pursuit of God's heart. Keep praying! Keep believing! Keep declaring! Keep fasting! Keep LOVING Him! For this is an indicator of growth.
Prayer
Father, we trust your sovereign will for our lives. We trust that all things are working for our good, even if we don't receive the things we ask for. Lord, it's your face that we seek and not your hand. Our hearts are submitted to your purpose for our lives. With hearts of gratitude, we lift your name high. Amen
