Scripture
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”-John 15:5
The older I get, the more I realize that every one of us is abiding somewhere. We often think of abiding as a spiritual discipline reserved for prayer closets, worship services, or quiet moments with God, but abiding is much deeper than that. It is the place where our hearts naturally settle when life becomes difficult. It is where our minds wander when nothing demands our attention. It is what we turn to for comfort, security, identity, and peace. Jesus invites us to abide in Him, to make our home in His presence, yet many of us find ourselves dwelling in worry, striving, busyness, entertainment, or the opinions of others. The question is not whether we are abiding. The question is where we have chosen to make our home.
Beloved, Jesus never intended for you to live disconnected from His life. Just as a branch cannot produce fruit apart from the vine, neither can you experience the fullness of God's purpose apart from abiding in Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, the Father and the Son have drawn near, inviting you into a continual relationship marked by love, dependence, and communion. The Lord is not condemning you for the places where your heart has wandered. Rather, He is gently revealing them so He can draw you back to Himself. Every area surrendered to His presence becomes fertile ground for the fruit of the Spirit to grow. What you consistently give your attention to will shape you, but what is rooted in Christ will always produce life.
Today, take an honest look at the places where your time, affection, and attention naturally flow. What has become your emotional home? Where do you run when you need peace, comfort, or security? Jesus is extending an open invitation to abide in Him. Make His presence your dwelling place. Return to Him throughout the day. Sit with Him, talk with Him, and allow His Word to reshape your heart. As you remain connected to the Vine, you will discover that the fruit you've been longing for is not something you have to force. It is the natural result of a life rooted in Christ.
Reflection Pause: When life becomes overwhelming, where does your heart instinctively turn for comfort and security? What might God be inviting you to surrender so that you can abide more deeply in Christ?
Prayer Moment
Father, thank You for inviting us to abide in Your Son. Reveal the places where we have made our home in things that cannot truly satisfy. Draw our hearts back to Jesus and teach us to remain in His presence throughout each day. May our lives be rooted in Him, nourished by Him, and transformed by Him so that we bear fruit that brings glory to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
