The Pattern of True Communion

Scripture

“By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death… for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” — Hebrews 11:5–6

I’ve read these verses many times throughout my Christian life, often as a way to strengthen my faith. But a few years ago, I paused and asked the Lord to show me something deeper. As I lingered over the text, I began to see Enoch’s story with fresh eyes. His walk with God was so intimate, so marked by faith, that God took him away before death could touch him. To walk with God in such closeness, Enoch had to trust Him deeply. His fellowship with God was not casual—it was continual, intentional, and rooted in unwavering belief. And as I reflected on that, I realized the writer wasn’t simply telling Enoch’s story; he was inviting us into the same kind of communion.

Walking in communion with God requires faith—not just at salvation, but throughout our entire journey. Faith is the only way to please Him. After we receive Christ, we continue to trust Him, continue to lean into His presence, continue to believe that He is with us and for us. Verse 6 is often read in isolation, but it is intentionally connected to Enoch’s example. The writer shows us what true fellowship looks like, then explains how to enter and maintain it. Enoch walked with God by faith—and we must do the same. When we seek Him, He rewards us. And the reward is not merely provision or answered prayers—the reward is Himself. He reveals His nature to the heart that diligently seeks Him. As He reveals Himself, our confidence grows. Our trust deepens. Our eyes become fixed on Him rather than the pressures of life. This is the beauty of communion: faith produces seeking, seeking produces revelation, and revelation produces confidence. As we walk with Him, He gives us grace to face every challenge without losing sight of His promises.

Beloved, hide these scriptures deep in your heart. Let them anchor you when you are tempted to rely on your own strength or the systems of this world. God is inviting you into a walk marked by faith—faith that seeks Him, faith that trusts Him, faith that believes He is the reward. You are called to walk with Him the way Enoch did: steadily, intimately, confidently. As you do, He will reveal Himself, strengthen your heart, and deepen your communion with Him.

Reflection Pause: Where is God inviting you to trust Him more deeply? What part of your walk needs to be anchored again in faith rather than feeling?

Prayer Moment

Father, deepen my faith as I walk with You. Reveal Yourself to me as I diligently seek Your heart. Strengthen my communion with You until Your presence becomes my greatest reward.
