Scripture
“Yes, feast on the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm.” -Colossian 3:2
I’ve learned over time that there is a very real, very subtle fight for my attention. As I grew in the Lord, trials and situations seemed to multiply, and without realizing it, I allowed the adversary to use them as distractions. They pulled me away from my true purpose, and because I wasn’t discerning, those distractions kept me inconsistent for years. There were seasons when what God had planned for me was delayed — not because He withheld it, but because my focus was scattered. I had to learn that in every part of my spiritual life, I needed to adopt a God perspective. That shift didn’t happen accidentally. It required intention, surrender, and a renewed mind.
Colossians 3:2 teaches us to set our minds on heavenly realities rather than earthly distractions. This isn’t passive — it’s deliberate. It means shifting your focus from what threatens you in the valley to what God has spoken over your life. This shift requires paying attention to your thoughts, triggers, and behaviors. When the enemy whispers lies, you counter them with truth. When discouragement rises, you anchor yourself in Scripture. When trials persist, you pray more deeply than you ever have. Philippians 4:8 becomes a guide for your thought life — true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable. Renewing your mind is not a oneātime event. It is a continual surrender to the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to reshape your thinking according to the Word of God.
Beloved, shifting to God’s perspective means actively seeking His face for wisdom and guidance. It means creating space to study His Word, walking in forgiveness, practicing humility, and surrounding yourself with mature believers who help you stay accountable. It means identifying negative thought patterns and replacing them with declarations rooted in Scripture. It means showing yourself grace, because this shift is a process — one you simply must engage. It means that we are partnering with the Holy Spirit as He shows us how to operate in God's Kingdom. God is calling you higher. He is calling your mind upward. He is calling your attention back to Him. We have to do the work.
