Scripture
"My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart." -Proverbs 3:1
We know that as we live, we will make decisions to do things that we probably should not. We will also neglect to do things we should be doing. In either situation, it does not mean that we are ignorant of God's commandments. When we make choices that conflict with what we know is right, it says that we have not fully embraced our newness in Christ. It signifies that there is still some of the old man present, which can hinder our spiritual growth. This is why the mercy of God is so blessed. Let's fully embrace our new identity in Christ.
Understand, Beloved, that transformation into a new creation is a permanent state, but walking in it requires that we make a daily conscious choice to align with the Spirit of God, rather than our old nature. Embracing your new identity is not self-improvement, but an inward transformation that frees you from the slavery of sin. Your mind will be transformed, and your perspective will shift as you make an intentional decision to align with God's commandments. You will see yourself as God sees you, and when temptation arises, His Spirit will remind you of who you truly are. This enables you with the grace to resist the adversary.
So, how do we embrace our new life in Christ? First, let's stop defining ourselves by our past mistakes. They do not define us, and even though we fall short, they still don't have authority over us. Also, let's remember to align our thoughts with God's Word actively. You may have noticed that this journey is about the choices we make; therefore, we have to choose to live in our new nature, turning away from old, sinful habits. Remember this: "So then, beloved ones, the flesh has no claims on us at all, and we have no further obligation to it." (Romans 8:12)
