Scripture
For you are a holy people, who belong to the LORD your God. Of all the people on earth, the LORD your God has chosen you to be His own special treasure. -Deuteronomy 7:6
Just like the people of Israel, we did not choose the Lord, He chose us. We are His hidden treasure set apart and secured in Christ. Like them, we did not earn this identity, we were chosen out of His sovereign love. Peter declared that we are a chosen people, royal priests, a holy nation, and God's very own possession. (1 Peter 2:9). Then, God was fulfilling His promise to Abraham to establish a 'kingdom of priests' to bring God's laws, revelation and ultimately the Messiah to the world. Today, we His treasured possessions are a part of that fulfillment through Jesus Christ. We have been redeemed and brought with a price. What should be our response to this awesome truth? Our response should be obedience.
What does it mean to be God's special possession? It means we are highly valued, loved, and protected by Him. We are cherished by the Lord. Beloved, do you know how beautiful your position is? The creator of heaven and earth, the One who exists in eternity, thinks the world of you. He saw your life before the world was created and ensured that you would enter the timeline you're currently in for His pleasure. You're His treasured possession. How do we respond and reciprocate this kind of overwhelming love and care to Him? We reciprocate His love through our obedience to Him. Our obedience to Him is not to gain His favor, but a grateful response to being well loved. It's a reflection of an intimate relationship with Him.
Beloved, when we are obedient to the Lord we are proclaiming His excellency and we're living witnesses to His grace in a dying world. We show the world what it means to be a child of God. In a society where insecurities and uncertainties abound, we can enjoy our secure status in Him. We obediently serve Him from a place of love, not obligation because we know we could have never earned this status. It's given freely to us because He chose us. And who are we? His treasured possession.
Prayer
Father, how wonderful it is to be your treasured possession! We serve you with joy and gladness and our lives belong to you. We love you forever. Amen
