Whenever my busy thoughts were out of control, the soothing comfort of your presence calmed me down and overwhelmed me with delight. -Psalm 94:19
I find myself asking God to calm my racing thoughts when life becomes overwhelming. When I'm faced with deadlines and endless responsibilities, my mind can get cloudy. I tend to fixate on the tasks I haven't completed, and before I know it, what was seemingly a small hill turns into a mountain. Of course, all of this is in my mind. It's always about the mind, Beloved. This is why Paul told the Romans to be transformed by renewing their minds. (Romans 12:2). It doesn't matter how long you've been a believer; if you're not careful, your faulty thinking will affect your emotional well-being.
I've had to learn that there will always be an opportunity to feel overwhelmed by life's challenges. And life will always become noisy, and my thoughts will race. However, when I lean into the Comforter, He will still my restless heart and mind. The Lord will always provide divine comfort when our thoughts are out of control. He had to be the One that I turned to during these times instead of my own strength. When I sit quietly in His presence, His peace and consolation wash over me. I am soothed by the comfort of His presence, and the mountain gets smaller. I had to learn to intentionally fix my thoughts on what is true and lovely rather than the surrounding chaos. God is the source of our strength, particularly in a world full of turmoil, where we feel the weight of our burdens.
