Scripture

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. -I Peter 5:8

Have you ever noticed that once you've received the Word of the Lord and you're on the right trajectory, something comes along to get you off course? It could be distractions in the form of people, old thought patterns, or even anxiety. The enemy shows up to impede your progress, steal your time, and ultimately your focus from what is truly important to the things that are less important. These aren't trivial little weights that show up, they are destiny stealers. If we don't discern the enemy's patterns, then we'll always find ourselves repeating this cycle. A sure way to know that you're likely aligning with God's will for your life is spiritual distraction and interference. You may not actually recognize it for what it really is at first until you begin to pay attention. This is why spiritual growth and maturity are so important. Spiritual growth fosters discernment through the Holy Spirit, allowing us to recognize recurring cycles, traps, and strongholds—the "patterns of the enemy"—that cause stagnation, fear, or dysfunction.

Beloved, recognize repetitive cycles in your life. The enemy will use the same tactics that have worked against you in the past. Their appearance is a signal that you are close to breakthrough, new levels, and right alignment. Every time you set yourself to do what God has called you to do, demonic devices will come in the form of temptation or fear to provoke the same reactions from you. Spot these patterns early so that you won't fall into the same trap.

Peter is admonishing believers to stay alert and be vigilant. He's telling us to be in the state of spiritual readiness. Enjoy your spiritual journey, but don't let your guard down. Deepen your relationship with God through scripture, prayer, and worship. As your discernment grows, you won't be caught off guard anymore because you'll learn to recognize demonic strategies, break patterns, and resist negative influences. You'll go from being on the defense to being on the offense in the spirit. Be encouraged today, you didn't lose out, God is teaching you how to win!

Prayer

Father, help us to pay attention to the tactics of the enemy. Help us to discern his patterns and overcome each temptation and trial victoriously. In Jesus' name. Amen
