Scripture
For in Him we live and move and have our very being; as even some of your poets have said, for we are also His offspring.- Acts 17:28
All of humanity exists because of God. Psalm 24:1 states, "The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness of it, the world and they who dwell in it." He is the giver and sustainer of all life. He displays His immanence through His intimate presence and active involvement in creation. I've learned that the closer you walk with the Lord, the more you understand who He truly is. He doesn't just save you from sin because He doesn't want you to face eternal damnation, but He saves you to Himself. He desires that you know Him. As I began to understand God's thoughts and plans for humanity, my heart grew more tender towards Him. I fell a little bit more in love with the King.
Beloved, nothing exists outside of Him. He is the origin of our existence, our actions, and our very essence, though humanity often lives as if it were created through other means. Understand that He is not an inaccessible God, but He is deeply and intimately connected to the workings of the universe and the lives of people. He dwells among us and is accessible and knowable at the same time. We can also look to the sustainer for guidance, revelation, and strength because it all comes from Him. Our dependence should be on Him, not the world's systems or even our own wisdom.
Beloved, although Paul spoke this way to the Athenian philosophers, who were known for their idols and gods, this scripture serves as a reminder to believers that we are not living this life alone. We don't face challenges, nor do we fight battles all on our own. Our God, who is intimately connected to His creation, is much closer than we think. Paul said as much in the previous verse, "So that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after Him and find Him, although He is not far from each one of us." (Acts 17:27). We can face each day in confidence knowing that the God who holds the world together is working in our situations. So, Beloved, relax and breathe, we're not in this alone.
Prayer
Father, thank you that in you we live, and move, and have our being. Thank You for being the ultimate source of all life and for sustaining us. We pray that our actions and movements would bring glory to You. In Jesus' name. Amen
