Scripture
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. - Matthew 5:8
The condition of our hearts is directly connected to our relationship with the Father. In Greek, pure in heart means a heart full of integrity and honesty, free from malice and selfish motives. Another way of looking at it is that the pure in heart are undivided. A heart utterly devoted and committed to God. Both are foundations for cultivating an intimate relationship with God. The amazing truth about God is that as you cultivate an intimate relationship with Him, it will fuel your desire to be pure in heart before Him. Beloved, please understand that God deals with the inner you. As you allow the Holy Spirit to strip away the self-serving fleshly desires from your heart, the reward is greater intimacy with the Father.
Sinful desires, covetousness, lust, and deceptions of all kinds disrupt our communion with God. He's holy and requires the same nature in us as we draw nearer to Him. Sin separates us from the Father. A pure heart is free and continuously being freed from the pollutions of sin. Therefore, we feel no reason to ever pull away from Him in shame. By the eye of faith, we will enjoy God in our lives. As our hearts become pure before Him, we will discern His presence in different facets of life. We'll see Him in nature, we'll see Him in scriptures, and we'll even see Him in people around us. We have a deeper perception of His presence and grace.
Our intimate relationship with God must become our greatest motivation for purity, not fear of exposure and facing the consequences. God is the reason we walk away from situations, relationships, and habits that pull us away from Him and pursue His ways. Being pure in heart doesn't refer to you being sinless, but rather a continuous journey of repentance, seeking forgiveness, and striving to live in alignment with God's desires. Be inspired by David and ask the Father to challenge our thoughts and search our hearts for any offensive ways. Let's allow the Holy Spirit to reveal what's in our hearts today.
Prayer
Father, thank you for the promise that those who are pure in heart will see you. Create in us a clean heart, O Lord, and renew a right spirit within us. Help us to keep our thoughts and intentions pure, so that we may experience the beauty of your presence. In Jesus' name. Amen
