Benefits of Drawing Near

Scripture

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him" -Hebrews 11:6

Let's be clear, God never withholds His presence from us. However, it's people who decide to go their way. He lovingly waits for us to draw near to Him, and when we do, He is there with us. The beautiful truth is that He reveals through the Holy Spirit His nearness and devotion to us. I find it so comforting to know that God is devoted to me. It makes me feel secure and it strengthens my faith. 

So, what are the benefits of drawing near to God?

-When we draw near to God, we find guidance and protection. We don't have to lean on our understanding. We can submit to Him and He will direct our path. (Proverbs 3:5-6) We don't have to live this life on our own accord and figure out the answers; all we have to do is submit to His ways. 

-When we draw near to the Lord, we gain greater spiritual sensitivity and discernment. He will train our ears to His voice and guide us in all areas of our lives. 

-When we draw near to God, we will receive increased spiritual authority and power. The Word tells us to walk in the Spirit so that we won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16). We will overcome sin and temptation. As we walk closely with God, He gives us divine empowerment to overcome the flesh. He will give us the courage to live righteous and holy lives. 

-When we draw near to God, we will experience the fullness of joy. God is a source of lasting joy and satisfaction, and drawing near to Him brings a joy that cannot be taken away. (John 16:22) We'll experience His overwhelming love for us. We'll notice our posture changing in every situation that we face. We may experience trouble, but we'll have peace and joy in the midst because Jesus is now Lord over our lives. 

-When we draw near to God, we'll gain a deeper understanding of His will for our lives. Because we know how to discern His voice, He'll begin to reveal His will and plans for us. Then He'll give us the grace go to down the path He has set before us.

Finally, when we draw near to God, we'll have a stronger, more loving relationship with the people around us. Experiencing His love will cause us to love others the right way. We'll see them as Jesus sees them. Beloved, drawing near to God can only enhance your life. It gives you peace, transforms your mind, and causes you to experience victory in Christ Jesus.

Father, we submit to you today. Guide our hearts and our minds that lead to everlasting life. In Jesus' name. Amen
