Utterly Devoted

Scripture

"Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as at this day." -1 Kings 8:61

Our Lord desires devotion from His children. He is very relational and, therefore, wants our lives to reflect consistent fellowship with Him. He wants more than churchgoers, good works, good singing, and the observance of spiritual ordinances. He wants hearts that are fully committed to Him. He is displeased with half-hearted devotion. The Father desires that our hearts be sincere and undivided in our relationship with Him.

We show our devotion to Him through our obedience to His laws and commandments. Jesus said in John 4:15, "If you love me, keep my commands". Our obedience to God's statutes and commandments serves as our response to His love for us. It's a tangible expression of our love for God. We are not simply giving lip service to Him. Our obedience demonstrates our love for Him. This pleases Him so much. Our relationship with God is an endless flow of love from His heart to ours, and from our hearts to His.

God desires that we maintain our commitment to Him. Our hearts should continuously long for more of Him. More of His nature, His love, His compassion, His faithfulness, and in loving response, we're obedient. One of our chief desires should be to please Him because we are utterly devoted to Him. Our hearts should be compelled to cry aloud, "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is, and is to come." (Revelation 4:8). Beloved, is your heart utterly devoted?

Prayer

Father, we express our love, gratitude, and desire to follow your will for our lives. We commit to keeping your laws and commandments in response to your great love and affection for us. You are our heart's desire. In Jesus' name. Amen
