Believer's Victory

Scripture

We fail in many areas, but especially in our words. Yet if we're able to bridle the words we say we are powerful enough to control ourselves in every way. -James 3:2

There is power in our words. The words we speak from our lips are significant, and they hold weight in the spirit and ultimately in the physical realms. This is not new information for many believers, but so many of us don't heed this truth from scripture. Our words have the power to shape our lives and our children's lives. You are either speaking life or destruction in any given circumstance you face. You not only come into agreement with your thoughts, but with your words. 

Beloved, you might have heard that you have creative power. This means that your life will eventually follow the words that you speak. Negative thoughts in a situation don't always belong to you. They are suggestions from demonic forces. You can't control the thoughts that are presented to you, but you can choose to come into agreement with them. If you come into agreement with them, you will begin to speak what you are thinking. Once you speak those negative thoughts, as the scripture suggests, you are controlling the direction of your life. 

Learn to become disciplined in your thoughts, and therefore, your words will follow. For example, when faced with a difficult circumstance, negative thoughts may present themselves to your mind. You have the power to disallow those suggestions from going any further. Since you know that God has a plan to make you prosperous and give you an expected end, those negative suggestions are lies. Therefore, you speak the truth out loud. "My God can do exceedingly abundantly, above all that I can ask or think. I am more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus. I don't have to carry this load, I can cast my cares on the Lord because He cares for me." You speak aloud all the scriptural truth that will line up with your victory in that difficult circumstance. Don't succumb to the negative thoughts, Beloved. Bridle or control your words; remember they control and shape your life. 

Prayer

Father, we pray for wisdom and guidance in our speech. Help us to discern when to speak and when to be silent, and to choose our words carefully. Please help us tame our tongues so that we can speak words of encouragement, grace, and truth. Amen
