Scripture
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is not deceit. -Psalm 32:1-2
This scripture brought great joy to my life at a time when the Holy Spirit was teaching me about the vital importance of Jesus' blood to the life of a believer. The entire chapter is about the blessing of forgiveness and the danger of unconfessed sin. This was a psalm written by David as a praise to God, but it's a testimony to believers everywhere today. The Holy Spirit revealed that there was unconfessed sin in my life. I asked Him to scan my heart and my thoughts deeply to see if there was any sin that I had not confessed and repented for. This was a similar prayer that David prayed in Psalm 139:23-24.
When the Holy Spirit revealed the unconfessed sin in my heart, I confessed it before the Lord. When He forgave me, He lifted the burden of the sin. Then, with Jesus's sacrificial blood, my sin was covered. He assured me that He wasn't keeping a record of it. He was not counting my sin against me. The Holy Spirit taught me how sin is a true burden in the believer's life. When we sin, we always attempt to cover it up. Therefore, it produces for us a double life. We live one way for the public to see, and then behind closed doors, we live a life opposite the one we display to the world. This is a very miserable way to live as a child of God. If you're His child, you're never truly comfortable in this sin you're in.
David discussed how living the double life caused him to feel old, oppressed, and dry. Beloved, this is the same situation that we find ourselves in when we refuse to confess our sins before the Lord. The lesson here is to be honest with God. Jesus sacrificed for the very sins that we are just too ashamed to confess before the Lord. When the Holy Spirit revealed what was in my heart, I was ashamed to even confess it, but through grace, I did. Then, He brought this psalm to me. I want to encourage you today, Beloved. Let's be honest with God and talk to Him about the sin we may be carrying. Let's come to Him with a broken spirit and a contrite heart. When we own it and ask for Jesus' blood to be applied, the sin is forgiven and covered, never to be brought up again. That burden will be lifted, and we will walk in true peace.
