Scripture
Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” -Jeremiah 9:23-24
While in prayer, I heard the Lord speaking the sentiments of His heart to me. He said, "My people perish for lack of knowledge. They don't truly know Me. Many were not taught, but others do not pursue Me. They are satisfied with the limited knowledge they have about Me." He went on to say, "I want them to want more of Me. So many people base their understanding of Me on someone else's limited and inaccurate knowledge. They have more of an idea of Me and they are satisfied with this." Then He said, "There are many who don't realize that they should want to know Me. They don't know that they should want Me. I must be known. Tell them about Me."
So, who is God? Our God is a spirit. He is infinite, eternal, and unchangeable. He is not limited by the physical world or human understanding. He is a person (being), and He exemplifies wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth. He has supreme authority, and He is the ultimate source of power. He can often be defined by His nature. For instance, He's omniscient. He possesses perfect and complete knowledge of all things, past, present, and future. He's omnipresent. He is simultaneously everywhere at the same time. He is imminent. He is present and active within His creation, dwelling with you and me. He exists independent of His creation. This means that if He decides that creation should no longer exist, He will continue to exist.
Our God is holy, which means He is set apart, pure, and morally perfect. He is love, compassion, and mercy. He is righteous and just. He upholds His principles and laws. He has a triune nature. This means that He exists in the Trinity; He is Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Three distinct beings united as one. He is sovereign, meaning that He has complete control over and authority over all creation. Finally, He is relational. Here's the beautiful truth. As powerful and sovereign as He is, He desires to have a relationship with humanity. His heart is tender towards us. He has an intense desire to be known personally by us. He doesn't want us to simply know 'about' Him, but He wants us to 'know' Him intimately. Beloved, have you encountered God through His nature and characteristics described above?
Prayer
Father, what a privilege and honor it is to be called a child of God. We desire to know you intimately, and we pursue your heart to develop an everlasting relationship with you. Amen.
