Scripture
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” — Proverbs 16:9
In my mid‑to‑late twenties, I thought I had my entire life mapped out. I was in graduate school, confident in my direction, and certain of the government career I would pursue. My plans felt solid, admirable, and secure—until everything shifted. I discovered I was going to be a mother, and suddenly the path I had crafted disappeared. I stepped into a career I never intended to enter, and for a long time, I wrestled with the tension between what I had planned and what God was doing. As I matured, I began to understand that God uses the unexpected to align our lives with His purpose. Looking back, I can see it clearly: my plans—though thoughtful and well‑intentioned—were not fully aligned with God’s divine direction. He was gently, sovereignly redirecting my life toward the very calling I walk in today—teaching in the kingdom. What felt like disruption was actually preparation.
Beloved, there is a difference between human intention and divine authority. We plan our course, but God establishes our steps. It is right to prepare, to dream, to envision—but we must hold our plans loosely. The Holy Spirit wants us to understand that God directs the outcome of our lives. When our plans shift, it is not punishment—it is alignment. His redirection is often the doorway into purpose. As we mature in Christ, we learn not to cling so tightly to our own expectations that we become bitter when God leads us differently. We serve a sovereign God. His purpose will stand. Sometimes He leads us into the unexpected. Sometimes He dismantles what we built. Sometimes He interrupts what we thought was best. But every shift is intentional. Every redirection is purposeful. Every step He establishes is rooted in love.
Beloved, God is inviting you to trust Him with the parts of your life that no longer look like what you planned. Hold your plans with open hands. Release the need to control the outcome. Follow Him humbly, even when the path feels unfamiliar. He is aligning you with His will. He is establishing your steps. He is guiding you into what He prepared long before you began to dream. Let your heart rest in this truth: when God redirects your plans, He is leading you into purpose.
Reflection Pause: Ask the Lord to show you where you may be holding too tightly to your own expectations. What would it look like to open your hands, trust His wisdom, and believe that His redirection may be leading you into the very purpose He prepared for you?
Prayer Moment
Father, I lay my plans before You and trust the steps You establish. Redirect my heart wherever needed so I can walk in Your will. Lead me into the purpose You prepared long before I planned my way.

Powerful and much needed devotion. Planning and navigating this temporal life becomes tiresome. Thank God, as this devotion reminds me, that He establishes my steps. There is purpose behind His steering of my life. I have to trust Him, open up, follow Him wherever He leads even when I dont understand it!!!
