The Ever Present God

Scripture

“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:20

As I matured in my walk with the Lord, my understanding of His presence had to be re‑formed. I often heard saints say, “God really showed up today,” or “I don’t think the Holy Spirit was in that place.” Though usually well‑intended, such phrases subtly distort our theology. They imply that God’s presence fluctuates based on atmosphere, emotion, or human expectation. But Scripture confronts that misconception. God is omnipresent—always active, always present, always near. David confessed, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” Psalm 139 God assured Moses, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33 The issue has never been God’s absence. The issue is our awareness.

Jesus repeatedly urged His followers to listen, watch, and hear. Attentiveness is a spiritual discipline. God does not wait for a worship service to arrive—He is already present in every sphere of human life. He is present with the mother folding laundry. He is present with the man on the construction site. He is present with the child in the classroom and the young adult on the college campus. He was present with Moses in the field long before the burning bush appeared. Our daily environments are not barriers to His presence; they are the very places He chooses to reveal Himself. Remember Martha. Jesus was in her home, yet her busyness—good busyness, Kingdom busyness—blinded her to the gift of His nearness. We often crave dramatic encounters as proof that God is with us. But He desires something deeper: a life trained to recognize Him in the quiet, the ordinary, the unnoticed.

Awareness is not accidental—it is cultivated. As we become conscious of His nearness, our lives begin to shift. We start asking different questions: Does my life honor His presence? Do my choices reflect His nearness? Am I living as one who carries God with me? Cultivating awareness is an intentional practice. It is the slow, steady training of the heart to perceive what has always been true: He is here. Beloved, ask the Lord to heighten your awareness of Him. Invite Him to teach you how to recognize His presence in every moment of your life.

Reflection Pause: Pause wherever you are and take a slow breath. Whisper, “Lord, You are here.” How might your choices, words, and attitude change today if you remained conscious that God is with you in every moment?

Prayer Moment

Father, thank You that Your presence surrounds me always. Awaken my awareness—teach me to recognize You in the ordinary rhythms of my day. Make my life a dwelling place for Your presence, so that everything I do reflects Your love and honors Your nearness. Amen.
