Strong Enough for the Next Step

Scripture 

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9

Beloved, every believer is called to move forward. Whether it’s the next step, the next decision, the next assignment, or the next season, God invites us into movement. For some, this brings excitement; for others, it stirs fear, insecurity, or hesitation. We can quote Scripture about fear not coming from God (2 Timothy 1:7), yet we often struggle to apply that truth to our own hearts. But Joshua 1:9 is not a suggestion — it is a command. God calls every one of us to step into our next season with strength and courage, no matter where we are in our spiritual journey.

I’ve felt this tension myself. Apprehension rises when God gives instruction without details. He speaks the “what,” but not always the “how.” Joshua understood this feeling well — stepping into Moses’ role with no blueprint, no map, and no certainty. Yet God had already seen Joshua’s ending. He had seen his victories, his mistakes, his obedience, and his faithfulness. And Beloved, God has seen your ending too. He has already scripted your story, including your next step. He knows that when you move forward, you will be victorious because He is with you. The only thing left for you to do is obey His voice and go.

Another reason God commands courage is because His grace accompanies your next step. Grace is not only unmerited favor — it is divine ability. God told Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Corinthians 12:9), meaning His strength covers every weakness, spiritual or physical. When God is with you, His nature provides help, power, and endurance. So, Beloved, boldly take the next step. Make the next move. Execute the next assignment. Whatever God has instructed you to do, you will win, because His presence and His grace go with you.
