There’s a reason God urges His children to grow and mature spiritually. He knows that when we choose to fully submit to His will, the power behind that obedience becomes unstoppable. This is what we call spiritual momentum. In physics, momentum describes how difficult it is to stop a moving object. A heavier, faster object carries more momentum than one that is lighter and slower. In the same way, spiritual momentum is the powerful, unstoppable force that forms when our will aligns with the Lord’s. It is fueled and sustained by consistent faith. When we have spiritual momentum, we continually press toward the mark of the high calling. We move steadily, persistently, and with purpose. And just like in physics, once we’re moving with that kind of force, it becomes very difficult for anything to stop us.
Spiritual force is built through our devotion to God. Think of it this way: in the natural world, momentum is mass multiplied by speed. In our spiritual lives, momentum increases with the speed of our obedience to the Lord. Daily prayer, consistent study of Scripture, and a lifestyle of obedience create a spiritual momentum that keeps us from slipping back into our old ways. The more devoted we are to Him through these practices, the farther and faster we move away from the person we used to be. Now multiply that by the weight of His presence, and you become an unstoppable force in the spirit. His weight—His presence—and your weight—your trust in Him—combined with consistent prayer, Scripture study, and service to His Kingdom produce a spiritual momentum that cannot be stopped.
Our spiritual momentum makes us steadfast, immovable, and unshakeable in times of trial. It keeps us moving from faith to faith, breaking through spiritual stagnation. This momentum propels us toward victory in Christ Jesus. So, Beloved, remember who you are. Remember that your faithfulness carries real, tangible benefits as you pursue God’s purpose for your life. God desires for you to keep moving forward, no matter how difficult the journey may feel. Don’t sabotage your spiritual momentum through laziness, procrastination, or fear. And if you realize you’ve lost some of that momentum, repent and return to your spiritual disciplines. Rebuild your rhythm. Reignite your devotion. We will finish strong.
Prayer
Father, we will consistently build spiritual momentum in our lives. Thank you for the weight of your presence that gives us the strength to be steadfast and immovable in our faith. In Jesus' name. Amen
