Scripture
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. -Isaiah 41:10
The fear of change can cheat us out of some of the greatest blessings that God had prepared for us. Perhaps, it's the fear of the unknown? Even if the situations we find ourselves in aren't the best, at least we know what we're dealing with because we're familiar with the ebbs and flows. When we're presented with the possibility of something new, it can be frightening. For some, it may be starting a new career. Others, it may be the possibility of the beginning of a new romantic relationship. Perhaps it's having to pack up the life you've known and moving to a new city or back to an old one. Whatever the situation is, change can be overwhelming. As a result, some of us talk ourselves out of pursuing God's best for us. Who said that you were supposed to live in that area for the rest of your life? Was it in God's plans for you to keep that job? Did He ever tell you that you were meant to be alone?
The Lord declared in Isaiah 55:8-9, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." His thoughts and actions far exceed our human understanding. The circumstances and places we thought were permanent may turn out to be temporary. We were only meant to gather wisdom and knowledge, and then move on to the next thing He has for us. His wisdom rarely works with our logic. This is why we trust Him with abandon. Instead of relying on our human understanding, we trust in His sovereignty, especially when things seem a little unclear. Let us not be dismayed when we don't know what's next on the horizon. Let us put our trust in the one who authors our faith, Jesus. God has the power to fulfill His divine plans for our lives from start to finish. Trust this, Beloved.
So, what are you fretting for? Don't shrink! God has a firm grip on your life. It's perfectly fine to be apprehensive about change and the unknowns that it brings, but it should not paralyze us. It should not stop us from being obedient. He will provide the strength and courage that we need to make the necessary shifts and pivots in our lives that align with His will. He is personally invested in your journey. Remember, "Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6). Go on, walk into your new season.
Prayer
Father, we trust you with every aspect of our lives. We trust your plans for us and we go forth with courage and boldness. In Jesus' name. Amen
