Scripture
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." - John 14:27
There are days when our hearts are troubled. Whether it be our children and other familial relationships. At times, it's our professions and our relationship with our spouses. There are even days when life's responsibilities become overwhelming with endless tasks and to-do lists. We may even lament over the state of someone else's life, knowing there is nothing we can do to change their situation. No matter where we find ourselves, Jesus promised His divine peace. He didn't mean the worldly, temporal peace we feel when all is right in our worlds. He's referring to the inner peace we can only experience through a relationship with Him.
Worldly peace is temporary because it is based on our comfort. This kind of peace is often situational and can leave us disappointed and full of anxiety when things don't work out in our favor. The peace that Jesus promised to His disciples transcends trials, worry, and challenges. In fact, this inner peace brings comfort in the midst of our challenging situations. It calms our troubled hearts in the midst of the trials. His divine peace isn't an absence of conflict, meaning unpleasant things will happen in our lives, but the peace that Jesus brings is eternal and unconditional.
Beloved, because Jesus knew His disciples were going to face all kinds of trials while carrying the gospel to the world, He promised that they would never be alone because the Holy Spirit would bring them peace. The same peace belongs to you today. Let not your heart be troubled; choose to trust God over your fears. God will always provide stability, comfort, and courage in challenging times. Lean in to His peace today and partake in His abiding peace and serenity. Only a life rooted in Jesus can give us the inner security we need for this life. Anything else is temporal.
Prayer
Father, we submit our troubled hearts to you. We lean in to your love and divine peace to find courage to endure the trials of this life. In Jesus' name. Amen
