Scripture
"Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done." -Isaiah 12:4
The Bible is full of scriptures admonishing us to give God thanks, but why? Giving thanks fosters a right relationship with God, cultivates a heart of humility, and strengthens your spiritual well-being. It counters negative emotions like arrogance and bitterness, and reinforces the belief that all good things are gifts from God. Giving thanks shifts our focus from ourselves and our circumstances and puts it on the Father.
Beloved, God is wonderfully sovereign. Giving thanks acknowledges His sovereignty and providence in every situation pertaining to creation. Thanking Him for His divine plan in all things aligns us to the plan. As we thank Him, we maintain humility, acknowledging that there is nothing that we could achieve or overcome without His divine assistance. We are reminded that what we have is a gift from Him, not a result of our own effort. True thanks gives us the right perspective of who we are in light of God's sovereignty. When we make it a habit to focus on gratitude, it acts as an antidote to the negative emotions we are prone to feel in any given situation. We counter the emotions through the joy and peace produced as a result of giving thanks to the Father.
We've entered the season of thankfulness and gratitude, and this is a perfect time to make giving God thanks a daily habit. Carrying a heart of gratitude makes you thankful for what you have as opposed to lamenting what you're still lacking. This keeps our heart in the right relationship with God. Beloved, thankfulness leads to greater peace and freedom of validation from other sources and things. Give thanks today.
