Help My Unbelief

Scripture

“Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, ‘I believe; help my unbelief!’” -Mark 9:24

I notice that we read faith scriptures in our personal time and believe in them while they are being read in our hearing, but the truth of them doesn’t always translate into our lives. The father in this scripture cried out to Jesus for healing for his son. Jesus told him that anything is possible if a person believes. In response, the father admitted his partial belief while pleading with Jesus to strengthen his faith to overcome his fear and uncertainty. Circumstances will arise in our lives to expose just how much faith we really possess. If you find, like me, that you have partial belief in certain areas of your life, Beloved, know that it is ok for you to bring your doubts to God.

That father’s admission of partial belief is relatable to many believers. The Lord wants us to bring our doubts to Him because He will help us through them. This vulnerability shows that we are not yet perfect in our faith, but are willing to be honest and seek His guidance. It doesn’t matter how long someone has been a Christian or what their title is; they are prone to unbelief.  The goal is to acknowledge it and get help from God. When we cry out to God for help, it does not mean we lack faith; it’s an active cry for His divine assistance to overcome our wavering belief.

Beloved, we are encouraged to bring our whole selves to God, including our doubts and fears. He will meet us in our weakness and strengthen our faith even when it feels insufficient for the trial we’re facing. We know the story: upon hearing the man’s plea, Jesus healed his son. He demonstrated that God’s power is not dependent on our perfect faith, but on His own will and grace. Do you find yourself struggling in fear and unbelief, Beloved? If so, acknowledge your weakness to the Father today.
