Scripture: Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled. -Matthew 5:6

Not only is righteousness a status, but it's a conduct. A life of righteousness is a life that confirms God’s standards. His justice, laws, and nature are lived out through the believer. Righteousness is displayed through disposition, and the righteous actions perpetuate the righteous status. The scripture above speaks of hunger and thirst. During this time, Jesus’ audience knew what it meant to hunger and thirst for food and water; therefore, Jesus was saying to them that if they long for righteousness, like they long for food and water, they will be filled. People who hunger and thirst for righteousness have a deep, passionate desire for God’s way of thinking and living. They intentionally live lives that honor Him. They will be blessed by this type of living because they will find complete spiritual satisfaction in His Kingdom.

Let’s take a deeper look at this scripture. ‘Blessed’ means fulfillment and spiritual wholeness. It signifies deep joy. Jesus used ‘hunger and thirst’ to signify a natural craving, which translated in the spirit as a powerful desire for God and His will. As described, righteousness means that one desires to conform his or her life to God’s will and ways and brings honor to God. The promise of being filled simply means complete satisfaction. So, in other words, the believer who longs to live a life aligned with God’s will, ways, and justice, through divine assistance from the Holy Spirit, will eventually get what he or she desires. As a result, such a person will experience spiritual wholeness, fulfillment, and deep joy. They become lovers of that which is good, and their lives will align completely with God’s will.

Beloved, why is this promise important to you and me? Living out this scripture is a sign of spiritual life and health. It indicates that we are actively engaging in our relationship with the Father. We consistently live a life that cultivates intimate communion with Him. It means that we have accepted Jesus' invitation to seek a deeper meaning and fulfillment than what the world offers. The fulfilment of this promise always leaves a perpetual hunger and thirst for more of God’s righteousness. Beloved, cultivate the desire for righteousness through studying God’s word, applying Kingdom principles as you learn them, and pursuing God’s agenda over your own. Our true fulfillment lies in advancing the Kingdom of God. Long for righteousness today, Beloved.

Prayer

Father, please instill in us a deep, passionate desire for righteousness. We cannot achieve righteousness on our own, and we ask for the wisdom to understand what is truly right. Strengthen and encourage us today to follow your path. In Jesus’ name. Amen
