The Secret Place of Prayer

Scripture

But whenever you pray, go into your innermost chamber and be alone with Father God, praying to him in secret. And your Father, who sees all you do, will reward you openly. -Matthew 6:6

As my intimate relationship with the Trinity deepened, my relationship with prayer also deepened over the years. I've learned that prayer isn't just about petitioning the Lord for answers to problems. It's a vehicle in which we can create sweet communion with the Godhead. It's a place of surrender. When you engage God in the secret place of prayer in the spirit, you enter a place where you are giving up your control and relying on Him.

There is a reason Paul told the Thessalonians to pray without ceasing. Prayer maintains constant communion with God. It encourages our heart posture towards Him to be reliant on Him as opposed to being reliant on ourselves. Paul was saying that prayer becomes a lifestyle. Romans 8:27 states, "And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God." At some point in our praying in the Spirit, the Holy Spirit will take the process from you. Your prayer will shift, and He'll be praying while you're submitting. This is called the point of prayer.

God hears our prayer as His Spirit is praying through us. The Holy Spirit is driving the prayer at this point. He knows our weaknesses, and He knows that we don't always know what to pray for, so He steps in and prays. Because He knows the mind of God (2 Corinthians 2:11), He prays those things that are on God's mind concerning us. We are no longer expending energy, but it's His energy. We are simply submitting so that the Spirit of God can pray through us. Continuing in prayer like this deepens our communion with the Lord. It increases our faith and causes our flesh to weaken. We are no longer looking to ourselves, but to Him as we approach prayer. It will affect our heart, therefore affecting our lives. Beloved, pray in the Spirit at all times (Ephesians 6:18) because it draws you into the bosom of the Father, a place where you'll never be the same.

Prayer

Father, as we enter the secret place of prayer, we submit to your Holy Spirit. We desire a deep fellowship with you as you instruct and bring deliverance to our lives. In Jesus' name. Amen
