Scripture
As the Scriptures say, “Who can know what is on the Lord’s mind? Who is able to give him advice?” But we have been given Christ’s way of thinking. -1 Corinthians 2:16
The more I mature in my spiritual walk, the more I acknowledge the importance of a transformed mind. If we're diligent in our pursuit of the Father, we'll begin to understand why old parts of us, patterns, behaviors, and thought patterns all have to die for the Word to be fulfilled in our lives. If any man be in Christ, He is a new creature; old things have passed away, behold all things have become new. If this scripture is true in my life, then I can't think in the same manner in which I'm used to. I have to have the mind of Christ. Not just when I'm at church and with other saints, this mind in me, which was also in Christ Jesus, has to permeate across all areas of life. In every situation that I face, I have to face it with the mind of Christ.
So, what does this look like for the believer? First, I believe that this is a divine enablement from the Lord. Believers, through the Holy Spirit, gain the ability to perceive the will of God for a given situation. Having the mind of Christ is a disposition. We walk in the same humility and selflessness as Christ. We show love and grace, where we would have given someone a piece of our minds. We say yes to things when we would have said no. Conversely, we say no to things and people that interfere with our spiritual walk. We're walking in obedience and showing genuine care for humanity. Do you remember the phrase, "What would Jesus do?" It applies here. What would Jesus do if He were a teacher? What would Jesus do if He were a doctor? What would Jesus do if He were a waitress? No matter what you're doing in life, we should adopt the mind of Christ to do His way.
Beloved, we have to cultivate the mind of Christ in our lives. Cultivating a mind of Christ means surrender. We are encouraged to surrender to the ministry of the Holy Spirit. He will teach us to follow His promptings. We also have to allow Him to transform our minds. Cultivating a mind of Christ looks like intentionally getting our minds off of the things in the natural and focusing on kingdom principles. Finally, we must imitate Christ. Continuously imitate Him as we face life, circumstances, and encounters with people. Having a mind of Christ means that we see the world and ourselves through the lens of Jesus.
Prayer
Father, we allow your Spirit to transform our minds so that we carry the mind of Christ. We set our minds on things above instead rather than earthly things. We pray to have the mind of Christ in our thinking, feeling, and discerning. In Jesus' name. Amen.
